TURKEY: Durmazlar unveiled the first tram that it is supplying for the future route T5 in Istanbul on March 11. According to the manufacturer, the styling is intended to evoke waves.
The Bursa-based manufacturer signed a contract in January 2018 for the supply of 30 trams. These would run without catenary using Alstom’s APS ground-level power supply technology. This uses an embedded third rail to supply power to trams.
Due to open in June 2020, the 14-stop 10 km line along the southern edge of the Golden Horn from Eminönü to Alibeyköy Cep Otogari is being built by Doğuş İnşaat. Work started in March 2017.
