GERMANY: The first of nine Coradia Lint 41/H diesel multiple-units which Alstom is supplying for use on the Wuppertal - Solingen route S7 was unveiled in front of 100 invited guests on November 22.
'The new Lints are the right choice for the Bergischen Land', said Ronald Lünser, Director of Abellio Rail NRW. 'They have power, high acceleration and offer our passengers comfort and safety. We have already had good experience with this unit on other routes and are looking forward to putting the first new train into operation.'
The DMUs are being procured by Abellio, which will sell them to transport authority VRR and lease them back.
Abellio Rail NRW is to operate the 41 km Der Müngstener route on behalf of VRR for 15 years from the December 15 timetable change, taking over from DB Regio. The S7 service will replace the existing RB47, and run every 20 min on weekdays, half-hourly at weekends and hourly late at night.
However, repairs to the landmark Müngstener Bridge will require replacement bus services on the Solingen Mitte - Remscheid Hbf section until June 27 2014.
