SEATS: Transcal has launched its Aerolite train seat, which is intended to be ‘lighter, slimmer and more comfortable’ than other options. The manufacturer says the Aerolite seat is one of the lightest on the market at 22 kg per passenger-place, with a slim profile which can be used to provide more legroom or increase passenger density.
The Aerolite was developed in conjunction with aircraft seating design specialist Factorydesign and manufacturer Acro. It is based on the Superlight Series 3 aircraft seat, retaining the aesthetic attributes, comfort and space while meeting rail industry regulations which require a high back.
'Rather than being made of steel, plywood or GRP like typical current train seats, this one is made of aerospace aluminium, and the seat back is made of composites', said Factorydesign associate Matthew Fiddimore. 'This means the seat could be ergonomically profiled, which makes a huge difference to passenger comfort levels.'
