USA: Austin light rail and bus operator Capital Metro has launched a mobile ticketing system for the Texas state capital.
Supplied by Bytemark, the CapMetro app can be loaded on Apple, Android and Windows devices, as well as the user management platform and backend reporting system. Passengers can buy travel using a variety of credit cards and store their tickets and passes on the device. Travel permits are displayed in a format that can be checked by a driver or inspector without the need for a scanner. There is an option to purchase multiple tickets on one device for a group traveling together.
The visual-verifiable virtual (V3) animated screen includes several levels of security, which help to minimise fare evasion. In addition to the ticket purchasing functions, the app provides users with access to Capital Metro’s mobile trip planner, maps, timetables and real-time travel information. A Smart Tile home screen provides the most relevant content, based on users’ preferences and usage history.
