POLAND: A production line dedicated to the InterCity New Generation electric multiple-units ordered by Dutch national passenger operator NS has been officially inaugurated at Alstom’s Katowice plant.
The 6 500 m2 hall has 20 work stations covering stages from pre-fitting to cabling and interior fit-out. Bodyshell welding and erection, painting and final testing are performed in separate halls.
More than 500 employees are currently involved in the ICNG project at Alstom sites across Europe, with design and development being undertaken at Saint-Ouen and Salzgitter and 110 staff working on the Katowice line which is designed to produce one car per day.
The €800m ICNG contract signed in July 2016 covers 49 five-car and 30 eight-car Coradia Stream 200 km/h inter-city EMUs. The first are scheduled to be delivered from January 2020, for use on the Rotterdam – Breda route from 2021 and on the Den Haag – Eindhoven corridor from 2022.
