CHINA: Renk Test System of Germany has won a contract to supply a dynamic wheelset test rig to the China Academy of Railway Sciences, able to simulate operation at 500 km/h whilst applying vertical, lateral and yaw forces up to 250 kN each at a frequency of 60 Hz.
Renk is also supplying a 500 km/h flywheel brake testing dynamometer to the China South Railway Institute. It will supply a similar unit to Yujin Machinery of South Korea in 2011 for testing the disc brakes used on the KTX-II trainsets in a variety of simulated weather condition.
