EUROPE: Russian steelmaker EVRAZ NTMK has begun production of two more types of wagon wheel for the European market, after Czech railway research institute VUZ certified the production process as being compliant with TSI requirements.
EVRAZ said the solid-rolled 920 mm BA 314 and ВА 005 wagon wheels are among the bestselling types in the European markets. A pre-certification audit assessed quality management and record keeping systems at the manufacturing plant, which features a high level of automation. The wheels also passed cyclic and thermo-mechanical tests in an Czech laboratory. The latest approvals follow on from earlier certification of ВА 318, ВА 319 and ВА 004 wheels.
‘EVRAZ’s objective is to expand its product portfolio with product types that are most popular in the company’s strategic markets and key product segments’, said Vice-President, Sales, Ilya Shirokobrod. ‘In 2016, EVRAZ NTMK is planning to launch production of new freight wheels for North American markets, including those with increased rim hardness, and two more European-standard wheel types for freight cars.’
