USA: To meet growing demand, FreightCar America is investing $10m to add an extra production line at its leased manufacturing plant at Cherokee in the Shoals region of Alabama. When fully operational in Q2 2015 the plant will have the capacity to build up to 8 000 wagons/year, with the new line adding 150 to 200 jobs in addition to the current 500 employees.
‘FreightCar America has successfully diversified the company with a number of new railcar types, which have been well-received in the marketplace,’ said Joe McNeely, President & CEO. ‘A major part of this achievement has been the decision to manufacture railcars at the state-of-the-art Shoals facility.’
