NETHERLANDS: Surveying and geotechnical data company Fugro announced an agreement to acquire RailData on May 1. This includes the RailData International subsidiary which is looking to expand the business outside the Netherlands.

With 12 staff and revenue of €1·2m in 2013, RailData specialises in the measurement of the absolute and relative position of track in three dimensions. It uses equipment which can easily be attached to rolling stock to undertake measurements at normal operating speeds, avoiding the need to use specialist vehicles or schedule inspection runs between regular services.

RailData will join the survey division of Fugro’s geospatial business. Fugro said the acquisition fits well with its strategy to build market share in corridor mapping, where it already offers LiDAR and other mapping techniques to the rail industry.
