NETHERLANDS: Siemens and leasing company Mitsui Rail Capital Europe have agreed to establish an equally-owned locomotive servicing and maintenance joint venture to be known as Locomotive Workshop Rotterdam.
Subject to regulatory approval, the formation of the company is expected to be completed in the first half of 2018. A groundbreaking ceremony is to be held this year for the construction of a workshop in the Port of Rotterdam where the new company would undertake inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance, routine repairs and modifications from its opening in mid-2019.
‘Siemens and MRCE have enjoyed a close supplier relationship for years’, said Johannes Emmelheinz, CEO of Customer Services at Siemens’ Mobility Division, when the joint venture was announced on March 27. ‘We will not only maintain the MRCE fleet, but also reliably service and guarantee the maximum availability of third party fleets with our innovative maintenance technologies. With the new facility in the Port of Rotterdam, we are expanding our existing international workshop network and can better support customers where they need us.’
