USA: Mitsubishi Electric Power Products has opened a factory near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to produce heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems for locomotives and rolling stock.
Announcing the opening on June 25, the company said it is aiming to win a 30% share of the North American HVAC market. The plant will begin full-scale production shortly, increasing Mitsubishi Electric Corp's global HVAC production capacity by 50%.
'This new investment underscores Mitsubishi Electric's commitment to the North American transit agencies and locomotive producers,' said Tim Logan, General Manager of the Transportation Systems Division at Mitsubishi Electric Power Products. 'In addition to helping us to comply with Buy America clauses contained in most bid requirements, our new factory will increase our local capacity to provide technical service support, testing, repairs and overhauls.'
