Škoda Vagonka has commissioned a KC100m machining centre in Ostrava featuring a 50 m by 10 m machine supplied by Strojírna Tyc which can handle large aluminium rolling stock parts up to 39 m × 4∙5 m. ‘The new machining centre is unrivalled in size and will allow us to work much more efficiently, both in terms of time and cost’, said Škoda Transportation group President Petr Brzezina.
All the regulatory approvals necessary for Alstom’s acquisition of Bombardier Transportation have been received, and the transaction is expected to take place on January 29. On January 5, Alstom successfully carried out an eight-year, €750m senior bond issuance at a 0% fixed coupon, with the proceeds to be used for general corporate purposes including the financing of part of the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation complementing the capital increases. ’We are very close to opening a new chapter in our history’, said Alstom Chairman & CEO Henri Poupart-Lafarge on January 19.

Loram Maintenance of Way subsidiary Georgetown Rail Equipment Co has been rebranded Loram Technologies, as part of a reorganisation of product lines and services. Loram designs, builds and operates track machines, while Loram Technologies will continue to provide inspection equipment and services, including Loram’s friction management and geotechnical ground penetrating radar products. Loram Maintenance of Way has also acquired the railway services divisions of Montana Hydraulics, which will be managed under Loram Technologies.
Cando Rail Services has appointed Steve Bromley to the newly created role of Chief Commercial Officer, leading its infrastructure development, service delivery and business development functions. He was previously Vice-President Commercial & Service Delivery. ‘His new role allows us to continue providing the high level of rail service and safety we are known for, while also expanding our rail terminal network’, said President & CEO Brian Cornick.
Henrik Dahlin, who is currently the CEO of Stockholm commuter rail operator MTR Pendeltågen, has been appointed CEO of MTR Nordic with effect from March 1. He succeeds Mark Jensen, who is leaving the rail industry. MTRX CEO Mats Johannesson will succeed Dahlin at MTR Pendeltågen.
