Celebrations at Wabtec’s Marhowra plant in Bihar marked the delivery of the 500th Evolution Series diesel locomotive to Indian Railways under a US$2·5bn agreement for 1 000 locos signed in 2015. So far Wabtec has delivered 438 of the 4 500 hp dual-cab locomotives, and 62 6 000 hp single-cab locos.

On February 15 leasing company Railpool said it is the first rail industry organisation with approved short- and long-term science-based targets in accordance with the Paris Agreement. Railpool’s plans to reduce its emissions by 42% by 2030 include a switch to renewable energy, installation of photovoltaic equipment and a reduction in gas heating, while the expansion of its fleet of electric and bimode locomotives ’will further advance the overall transition in the transport sector’.
