USA: Union Pacific Corp's PS Technology subsidiary announced its acquisition of the Yard Control Systems division of Ansaldo STS USA on June 25. Terms were not disclosed.
Based at Norristown in Pennsylvania, Yard Control Systems provides automation and control technology for marshalling yards. Later this year it expects to release an updated version of its Star III hump yard control system.
'Rail yard optimisation is important for railroads to increase efficiency, create faster delivery times and help customers compete in a global economy,' said Ashok Fichadia, CEO of PST. 'Efficient yards are critical for managing the forecasted freight rail traffic growth in coming years.'
