CHINA: The groundbreaking ceremony for a €25m rail vehicle component plant in Shanghai is planned for December, Voith announced on March 31. Production at the 10 000 m2 facility is expected to start in early 2016. In addition, Voith is to set up an engineering centre which will adapt components to meet local requirements.
Voith said that Asia, and especially China, generates a substantial proportion of its sales, with the high speed, regional, metro and tram markets offering significant growth potential as well as increasing demand for specialised support services.
In 2007 Voith Turbo opened a drive component production site in Shanghai. The group also holds 50% stakes in Voith Lutong Urban Rail Gearbox Technology in Changchun, and Scharfenberg coupler producer Voith Schaku KTK Coupler Technology in Shanghai.
‘We are moving closer to our customers and will therefore reinforce and further expand our position in the Chinese market’, said Carsten Reinhardt, member of the management board of Voith GmbH and CEO of the management board of the Voith Turbo division.
