HUNGARY: Budapest transport authority BKV took delivery of the first six-car metro trainset to be refurbished by Metrowagonmash on May 11.
The Transmashholding subsidiary was selected in July 2015 to refurbish 185 Type 81-717/714 cars, 10 Type 81-717/714-2M cars and 27 Type Ev3 cars. Work is due to be completed by May 2018 and would extend the service life of the cars by 30 years.
Interior and exterior refurbishment includes the installation of CCTV, driver’s cab air-conditioning and forced air ventilation in the passenger compartment, as well as new front ends. Traction, control, braking and electrical equipment is being upgraded, with power consumption lowered following the refurbishment. Longitudinal seats are being installed and electric doors fitted to replace the pneumatic doors.
