RUSSIA: United Wagon Co has obtained operating certification for its Type 15-629 six-axle articulated tank car for carrying light oil products.
It runs on 25 tonne axleload bogies and is designed to make the most efficient use of capacity when transporting light oil products with a density of up to 0∙84 tonnes/m3, solving the problem of underloading of up to 15% which UWC says can occur when standard four-axle wagons are used.
The two sections are connected by a spherical articulated connector, giving the wagon a total capacity of 160 m3 or 108 tonnes.
It is UWC’s sixth design of articulated wagon to be certified, after an LPG tank car, and open and hopper designs for grain and mineral fertilisers.
