AFGHANISTAN: The first shipment of Chinese commercial and transit goods to arrive in the current solar year was delivered to the commercial port of Hairatan on July 11, having been moved by rail from Urumqi via Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, the train organised by the Afghan Cargo Co conveyed 51 containers of Chinese-made products, including electrical appliances, medicine and cosmetics, various types of clothes, and toys, as well as other commercial goods.
Rail freight from China to Hairatan began with a trial in September 2016, but it was not until September 2019 that the first eastbound service was dispatched from Afghanistan in co-operation with Uzbek state railway operator UTY.
