ITALY: GTS Rail has announced a €74m order for Alstom to supply 20 Traxx DC3 locomotives, which will take its fleet to 48 locos, and has said it is looking to enter the Spanish and Portuguese freight markets.
GTS Iberia has been established to develop new flows to destinations including Belgium, Italy and the UK, with support for logistics companies needing UK customs clearance.
Announcing the latest locomotive order on June 8, GTS Rail said its objective was to transfer large volumes of freight from road to electric trains.
Investment of €70m is planned over the next three years, along with the recruitment of 150 staff over four years.
