NEW ZEALAND: Indonesian rolling stock manufacturer PT Inka shipped 133 flat wagons destined for KiwiRail on February 27.
They are part of an order for 262 wagons which the national freight operator placed with Australian company UGL in January 2021.
The 40 ft, 50 ft, and 60 ft wagons were designed by UGL at Newcastle in Australia. Their tare weights range from 15·2 to 17·1 tonnes, with a maximum payload of 62·9 tonnes.
‘Two prototypes were delivered in the middle of 2022 and have completed dynamic testing by UGL and KiwiRail,’ said PT Inka President Eko Purwanto.
The wagons will be used to carry timber, replacing life-expired vehicles as part of KiwiRail’s fleet modernisation programme, said Chrissy Farago, the operator’s Rolling Stock Procurement Programme Director.
