LITHUANIA: The national railway’s freight division LTG Cargo has called international tenders for the supply of up to 500 grain hoppers and 228 container wagons in support of its long-term business strategy.
LTG Cargo said the Lithuanian grain market grew by 30% with a harvest of 7 million tonnes last year, and demand for grain in the Baltic States is forecast to continue to grow. It is also aiming to grow its intermodal transport volumes nine-fold by 2030.
‘We aim to further strengthen the company’s competitiveness, to diversify the flow of cargo and thus reduce external risks to our business’, said LTG Cargo CEO Egidijus Lazauskas on May 20. ‘To this end, we are expanding our activities in international markets, developing new services, and by purchasing new wagons, we aim to increase cargo volumes and offer green cargo transport to even more customers.’
The operator said it would take national security interests into account when awarding a contract.
