POLAND: National freight operator PKP Cargo is to evaluate an initial batch of three wagons to be supplied by China CNR Corp. If the Chinese-built wagons are certified as meeting Polish standards, a further 17 vehicles would be delivered for operating trials.
The results of these trials should enable PKP Cargo to decide whether to go ahead with plans first announced in 2010 to establish a wagon assembly plant through a joint venture with the Chinese firm. The facility proposed for a PKP Cargo site in Szczecin would assemble wagons to meet the operator's own requirements and for other European customers using components supplied from China.
