USA: RJ Corman Railroad Co has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase a 70 km line between Fayetteville and Fuquay-Varina in North Carolina from Norfolk Southern, and to lease a further 30 km which will provide access to Raleigh.
Subject to regulatory approval, RJ Corman’s newly-created Raleigh & Fayetteville Railroad subsidiary is expected to take over operations in December, becoming the group’s 19th railway.
The route interchanges with Norfolk Southern in Raleigh and with CSX and the Aberdeen & Rockfish Railroad at Fayetteville. Traffic includes chemicals, metals, construction materials, agricultural and forest products and consumer goods.
‘With this acquisition, we will expand our footprint in the Carolinas, a market where the company has been highly successful’, said RJ Corman Railroad Group President & CEO Ed Quinn on November 14. ‘RJ Corman is committed to top-of-the-line customer service, and we are eager to replicate this experience for future business partners in the area.’
