GERMANY: With effect from December 14, RDC Autozug Sylt has taken over from CFL Cargo as the operator of freight services across the causeway to the North Sea island of Sylt.
RDC Autozug Sylt already runs car-carrying shuttle trains to and from the island. ‘We are very pleased that as a railway company based on Sylt, we can now also apply our know-how to freight transport’, said Managing Director Torge Nielsen. ‘Whether on our blue car-carrying train or our freight train, Sylt’s freight and corporate customers benefit directly from receiving services from a single source with familiar contacts.’
Freight trains run between Niebüll and Westerland three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, arrrving before 05.00 and returning to the mainland around 15.00. RDC will use its own V60 shunting locomotive and a Vossloh DE12 mainline locomotive, and eight Rens and 12 Sins wagons leased from European Rail Rent.
RDC also operates the seasonal Alpen-Sylt Nachetexpress passenger train between Westerland and Salzburg.
