FRANCE: A rolling motorway service has been launched to carry unaccompanied lorry trailers between the Mediterranean port of Sète near Montpellier and Valenton to the southeast of Paris.
The service has been developed by the government with the aim of reducing road traffic, and is targeted at regional freight forwarders as well as goods arriving by sea from Turkey.
The first train ran on November 17, with Rail Logistics Europe and its VIIA subsidiary offering three return trips per week. An increase to six per week planned from January 2023. Annual capacity will be 25 000 trailers, carried on Lohr wagons.
The Paris service joins the existing routes from Sète to Calais and to Bettembourg in Luxembourg.
