Oil refiner Slavneft-Yanos has ordered a batch of Type 15-6913 molten sulphur tank wagons for delivery from United Wagon Co’s Tikhvin plant in late October.
Australian Rail Track Corp has started work on a 300 m extension to Mount Murray loop on the Moss Vale – Unanderra line in the New South Wales southern highlands. Being funded with A$7·5m from state’s Fixing Country Rail programme, the work will allow grain and ore trains to Port Kembla to be lengthened from 41 to 62 wagons. Completion is expected by the end of 2020, enabling the line to carry around 3 million tonnes of freight a year.
Locotrans has ordered 50 Type 11-6874 vans for delivery from United Wagon Co’s TikhvinSpetsMash plant by August 1. They have 25 tonne axleloads and a capacity of 73 tonnes or 175 m3, wider doorways than older designs and four loading hatches on the roof and side walls.
Tom Lynch has joined the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association as Vice-President, Congressional Affairs, working with recently-appointed Mara Stark-Alcalá to pursue legislative support for issues facing short line operators including tax, infrastructure grant programmes and surface transportation policy.
LKAB Malmtrafik has awarded Railcare a SKr7∙8m contract for the transport of iron ore over three months from June 12. This will start with one train per day, increasing to two per day carrying a total of 6 400 tonnes. ‘It is great that LKAB Malmtrafik has chosen us as the supplier for this agreement as they work in an industry where logistics is of the utmost importance for production to continue’, said Railcare CEO Daniel Öholm. ’I am proud that in the coming three-month period we will be able to demonstrate our transport quality.’
