NETHERLANDS: Infrastructure manager ProRail has awarded BAM a €90m contract to remodel Driebergen-Zeist station on the Utrecht – Arnhem line. A major element of the project will be the construction of an underpass to replace a level crossing which forms a bottleneck on the N225 road.
The replacement station will have a concourse below the tracks to improve pedestrian access, and will be designed to be energy neutral with solar panels on the platform canopies. The number of tracks will be increased from three to four to help separate inter-city and stopping services, and there will be a new bus station and underground cycle parking.
The contract was signed on August 16, and construction is expected to get underway in early 2017 for completion in 2021.
