SERBIA: A €2bn project to modernise the 243·5 km Beograd – Niš line to allow 200 km/h operation is to begin in 2021, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport & Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlović announced on July 29.
The Beograd – Niš line is partially double track and is electrified at 25 kV 50 Hz.
Serbia will co-operate with Chinese company CRBC on the project, building on a memorandum of understanding signed in July 2018. The work could be financed through a Chinese loan.
The 149 km single track and electrified line from Niš to Preševo on the border with North Macedonia will be also upgraded under a separate work package.
