EUROPE: Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia have agreed to seek European Union funding to rehabilitate and reopen the 177·9 km Una line between Novi Grad (Bosanski Novi) and Knin. This once provided the shortest rail route between Zagreb and the Adriatic port of Split, but it has been out of use since being badly damaged during the wars of 1991-96.
The line crosses the border multiple times, with 119·4 km of the route in Bosnia-Herzegovina and 58·5 km in Croatia. It is managed by Željeznice Republike Srpske, Railways of the Federation of Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia’s HŽ Infra.
The agreement was signed in Zagreb on May 11 by Bosnia-Herzegovina’s Minister of Communications & Transport Ismir Jusko and Croatia’s Minister of Sea, Transport & Infrastructure Oleg Butković.
