USA: Los Angeles commuter operator Metrolink held a groundbreaking ceremony at Burbank-Downtown station on November 9 to mark the start of the Burbank Junction Speed Improvement Project.
The work includes the realignment and renewal of existing main line tracks and the installation of fencing to facilitate an increase in line speeds through the area. The work is being funded by the California State Transportation Agency, and is due to be completed in mid-2023.
The project forms part of Metrolink’s Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion programme, which aims to increase line speeds across the network and enable Metrolink to operate trains every 30 min, increasing capacity in preparation for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
