CHINA: The first phase of a 330 km line linking Dali with Ruili on the border with Myanmar has opened.

The section opened on July 22 runs 133 km from Dali to Baoshan in Yunnan Province. It passes through the Hengduan mountains, with 34 bridges and 21 tunnels which have a combined length of 116 km, or 87% of the total length of the line, leading officials to dub the line ‘a subway in the mountains’.

The line is electrified and has a design speed of 140 km/h.
