GERMANY: Deutsche Bahn and the Land of Sachsen have agreed to finance planning work for the proposed double-tracking of the Chemnitz – Geithain line, which forms the southern section of the Chemnitz – Leipzig route.
Funding has already been agreed for electrification between Chemnitz and Geithain and to complete double-tracking between Geithain and Leipzig. However, the promoters believe that a second track would be needed on the southern section of the corridor to maximise the overall benefits of the investment.
