AUSTRALIA: Transport for New South Wales has awarded Downer EDI a A$90m contract to undertake infrastructure works for the Gosford Passing Loops Project, one of four work packages forming part of the Northern Sydney Freight Corridor Program.
Downer will be responsible for the design and construction of two passing loops between Gosford and Narara, with the civil works to be undertaken in association with Robson Civil Projects. The scope includes 2 km of track on both loops, construction of six bridges and retaining walls, signalling and electrification works and commissioning. Completion is planned for mid-2015.
NSFC is a jointly funded initiative of the Commonwealth and NSW governments which aims to improve freight capacity and reliability on the 155 km line between North Strathfield and Newcastle, a major bottleneck on the east coast interstate rail network.
