ESTONIA: Project promoter RB Rail has selected Spanish company IDOM to provide design and supervision services for the Pärnu – Rapla section of the Rail Baltica 1 435 mm gauge line.
The contract covers master and detailed technical design of the substructure, superstructure and related civil works which is to be completed within 24 months, as well as site investigations, value engineering and design supervision during the construction period. The 71 km section of the future line will include 16 road bridges, six railway viaducts and four bridges and nine culverts for animals.
RB Rail received four bids for the contract, with Spanish company IDOM’s €6·8m+VAT offer selected as the most economically advantageous. The contract is expected to be signed in March, following the standstill period.
This is the first of seven design contracts for the Rail Baltica main line. ‘Announcing the winner of the first detailed technical design tender is a significant milestone for the Rail Baltica Global Project’, said RB Rail acting CEO Ignas Degutis on February 27, adding that IDOM would bring experience from its previous work on the Spanish high speed network.
