CROATIA: A contract for the modernisation and electrification of the 23·8 km Zaprešić – Zabok line which is to be incorporated into the Zagreb suburban network was signed by HŽ Infra and Swietelsky on June 12.

The maximum speed on the route is to be raised from 60 km/h to 120 km/h through infrastructure upgrading and the construction of several sections of new alignment, reducing the journey time from 44 to 28 min for stopping services and from 31 to 14 min for non-stop services.

Novi Dvori, Luka, Veliko Trgovišće and Zabog stations will be modernised and gain new subways and car parks, while the halts at Pojatno, Kupljenovo and Žeinci will be upgraded and supplied with new passenger information systems. Zabok station will be reconstructed and its freight and passenger facilitates separated.

Four bridges will be built, 15 level crossings modernised and noise protection walls installed near residential areas.

The EU is meeting 85% of the cost of the 614m kuna project through its Operational Programme Competitiveness & Cohesion 2014-20.
