DENMARK: Gødstrup station which Banedanmark is building on the Herning – Holstebro line in western Jylland is nearing completion and on course to open in spring 2021, the infrastructure manager confirmed in December.

Intended to serve the hospital now under construction at Gødstrup, 6 km northwest of Herning, the station will have a 150 m long platform on the single line. It will be used by hospital staff, patients and their relatives, but Herning Municipality is developing a bus and taxi interchange, a kiss-and-ride zone, bicycle storage and car parking so that the station can also serve the surrounding area.

The station and hospital had both been expected to open in December, but work on the hospital has been delayed and it will now open at some point during 2021. Banedanmark is using the delay to complete some final works on the station and other facilities, including an upgrading of the Gødstrupvej level crossing south of the station where traffic levels are expected to increase as a result of the development. This work is expected to be completed in March.

The station will be served by all passenger trains using the Herning – Holstebro line, with a basic hourly service in each direction during the day and evening, increasing to half-hourly at peak times.

‘The passenger base for a station in Gødstrup will increase significantly as soon as the new super hospital is ready’, explained Banedanmark area manager Lars Blædel Riemann. ‘We look forward to offering an efficient and green transport option to and from the hospital.’
