TURKEY: Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş attended a ceremony on February 9 to mark the completion of tunnelling on the Mecidiyeköy – Tekstilkent section of metro Line M7.
Construction of the 24·5 km Line M7 started in 2014, and opening is due in late 2018. The east-west route from Kabataş to Mahmutbey will serve 19 stations. According to Topbaş, 75% of tunnelling is complete.
Design capacity of the line is 70 000 passengers/h per direction, and ridership is expected to be 1 million passengers a day. The end-to-end journey time would be just over 30 min.
