POLAND: Małopolska voivodship has awarded a 1·8m złoty contract to a consortium of Infra CD and Instytut Kolejnictwa to look at options for the development of the region’s rail network.
The study will investigate the potential for enhancing passenger services on existing lines, as well as the provision of additional tracks between Podłęż and Tarnów and Nowy Targ and Zakopane. New line construction projects to be examined include routes from Kraków to Myślenice, Niepołomice and Olkusz, from Zastów to Kazimiera Wielka, and from Kraków Airport to Zabierzów.
In September 2019, the voivodship signed a co-operation accord with infrastructure manager PKP PLK to identify investment priorities for the Małopolska region to be taken forward as part of the National Railway Plan during the EU’s 2021-27 budget period.
