INDIA: Nokia is to provide a LTE/4·9G private wireless communications network to support the ETCS Hybrid Level 3 signalling which Alstom is to deploy for the Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System commuter rail project.
The 82 km railway will be India’s first to be equipped with ETCS Hybrid Level 3. This adds short virtual sections on top of a Level 2 installation, reducing headways by continuously monitoring and adjusting train speeds as well as facilitating automatic train operation.
The fully-redundant private network will be based on Nokia Modular Private Wireless technology, including AirScale radios, Air Frame-based evolved packet core capabilities, the 7250 IXR IP/MPLS backhaul routers, Group Communication platform for mission-critical push to talk/video and Network Services Platform management.
Announcing the contract on January 25, Nokia said LTE/4·9G for ETCS would be an important asset for railway operators, paving the way for a smooth transition to FRMCS.
