SOUTH AFRICA: Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa restarted electric services on the Johannesburg Park – Naledi suburban line on November 28.
As with several other railways across the country, the infrastructure had been badly damaged in recent years, with overhead line equipment and other assets stolen or vandalised, especially during the pandemic-induced lockdowns. In recent months Prasa had been hauling EMUs with diesel locos to provide a limited service to Naledi.
Electric services have resumed using X’Trapolis Mega EMUs that the Alstom-led Gibela consortium is supplying to Prasa.
