SLOVAKIA: Infrastructure manager ŽSR has awarded contracts for the provision of ERTMS on the 250 km route from Bratislava to the Czech border via Žilina and Čadca by the end of 2015.
General contractor AŽD Praha will provide ETCS Level 2 on the 37 km section from the Czech border to Žilina at a cost of €45m, while Kapsch CarrierCom has been awarded a €20m contract to provide GSM-R coverage along the whole route to Bratislava using 3GPP Release 4 core technology. The project is being supported by EU funding.
‘This project is of particular importance due to the transit corridor running through Slovakia,’ said Kari Kapsch, CEO of Kapsch CarrierCom. ‘The implementation of ERTMS in that country is an important element in achieving a modern rail network across Europe.’
