GERMANY: Deutsche Bahn has awarded a consortium of Strabag subsidiary Züblin and Max Bögl Group a €500m contract to build a loop from the Stuttgart – Wendlingen – Ulm high speed line which will enable long distance and regional trains serve Stuttgart airport.
The 5·3 km loop from the main line will run alongside the A8 motorway and through a 2·1 km tunnel. It will include a 400 m long underground station beneath the airport and exhibition grounds.
There will be provision for a connection between the existing S-Bahn and the new line.
The project forms part of the Stuttgart 21 remodelling package.
