SWITZERLAND: Swiss Federal Railways trains are using electricity entirely from renewable sources from January 1.

Previously around 90% of SBB’s electricity needs were met by hydropower and the remaining 10% from nuclear.

The nuclear power is now being sold on the market, with SBB purchasing an equivalent amount of electricity from certified renewable sources.

SBB said railways cause 0·3% of all transport CO2 emissions in Switzerland.
