GREECE: The national railway group’s major projects division Ergose has awarded a joint venture of Alstom and Avax a €41m contract to modernise signalling, track and electrification to enable 160 km/h operation on the 70 km section of Pan-European Corridor X between Thessaloniki and Idomeni on the border with North Macedonia.
Alstom will be responsible for design, supply and commissioning of Atlas 100 ETCS Level 1 trackside equipment, Smartlock 400 and MooN interlockings, replacement axle counters, point machines and signals and the installation of an Iconis digital traffic control system at the Thessaloniki control centre.
The project is scheduled to take three years, followed by a three year warranty period.
The project ‘is another important step towards the modernisation and upgrading of the international railway axis connecting Greece to central and western Europe’, said Stavros Vlachos, Alstom Managing Director for Greece & Western Balkans.
