INDIA: Kochi metro project manager Delhi Metro Rail Corp has awarded Alstom an €85m contract to supply 25 three-car Metropolis trainsets to Kochi Metro Rail Limited, with an option to supply an additional 25 trainsets.

The first trainsets are due to be delivered in early 2016 from Alstom’s Sricity plant in Andhra Pradesh. They will be used to operate services on the 25·6 km fully elevated line with 22 stations, which is currently under construction. The route between Aluva and Petta is expected to carry 15 000 passengers/h per direction.

The standard gauge air-conditioned trainsets would be 65 m long with capacity for 975 passengers. They would have a maximum operational speed of 80 km/h and be powered from a 750 V DC third-rail supply.
