UKRAINE: A feasibility study for tram-train routes serving Kyiv is to be undertaken following an agreement with urban transport planners from Germany which was finalised during InnoTrans 2016.

According to city council Deputy Head Ilya Sahaydak, services could start in three to four years, and would run at up to 120 km/h.

The proposed route would link the Troyeschyna and Berezniaky residential districts east of the River Dnieper with Karavayevi Dachi railway station to the west, thereby linking the separate tram networks on either side of the river.

Services would run from vul Miloslavska along existing tram tracks on vul Onore de Balzaka to Troyeschyna-2 railway station, from where they would run along the Miska elektrychka urban rail route via the main station to Karavayevi Dachi. Tram-trains would be stabled at the Taras Shevchenko Depot, currently used to store trams.
