DENMARK: København metro authority Metroselskabet has signed a framework agreement with Ansaldo STS to upgrade equipment supplied when the city’s metro network was built.
The €33m upgrade forms part of Metroselskabet’s Capital Asset Replacement Programme to ensure that levels of service availability are maintained. The work involves replacement of ageing and obsolete elements of the ATC, SCADA, obstacle detection and passenger security and information systems, as well as rolling stock components and depot equipment.
Ansaldo will draw up a detailed plan for the supply and installation of the new equipment over the course of several years, for approval by Metroselskabet.
The first section of the København metro opened in October 2002. The two-line network is now 21 km long with 22 stations and worked by a fleet of 34 three-car trains. Services operate 24 h/day.
Ansaldo recently won a contract to build the next phase of the metro, a circular line known as Cityringen, which is due to open in 2018.
