Letter to the editor

Sir - As the officer in charge of railway-related activities in the Transport & Tourism Division of the United Nations Economic & Social Commission for Asia & the Pacific (Unescap), I was very interested to read your article '1 520 partners debate co-operation' (RG 1.07 p33), which is a treasure trove of information on railway development.

However, I would like to draw your attention to one error in your report. The inter-governmental agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway network, signed in Pusan on November 10 (RG 12.06 p759), was the result of collaborative work between the Unescap secretariat in Bangkok and its member countries.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (Unesco) based in Paris was not involved with the development of this agreement.
