UK: Signify has upgraded the platform lighting on the Sheffield Supertram network, switching from SON-T lamps to Philips TrueForce Core LED Road 40W lamps which use 80% less energy while providing improved white light quality.
The supplier estimates that the switch will save more than 800 000 kWh/year, and maintenance costs will also be reduced.
‘We had been looking for the best replacement that physically fits into the existing luminaires, taking away the need to replace them’, said Mark Tomkins, Infrastructure Electrical Co-ordinator at Stagecoach Supertram.
’We also needed to ensure the new light bulbs meet all our objectives of enhanced safety, better visibility and being environmentally friendly. The Philips LED lighting offers several benefits such as better colour rendering, enhanced CCTV visibility, increased traveller and staff safety, and improved visibility. In addition, the energy savings are impressive when compared with conventional light sources and long-lasting products.’
