CHINA: Dalian metro Line 5 opened on March 17, running 24·5 km from Houguan in the north to Hutan Xinqu in the south via a 2·3 km underwater crossing of the bay.
It is the city’s sixth metro line, built as part of a ‘four vertical and two horizontal’ transport development plan, and takes the total length of the network to 237 km.
Line 5 was built under a build–operate–transfer model by a joint venture of China Railway (85%) and Dalian Metro Co (15%); the partners will operate the line for 25 years.
Construction began on March 31 2017 and the line with 18 stations opened for trial public services on March 1 2023.
CRRC Dalian has supplied 23 six-car Type B2 trainsets. These have stainless steel bodies, a maximum speed of 80 km/h and a capacity of 1 440 passengers.
